Mahasamund: Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, run by the Central Government to improve maternal and child health, is proving to be a support for women in the district. Through this scheme, pregnant and lactating mothers are being provided financial assistance and encouraged for better nutrition, health check-up and care during pregnancy. This scheme is one of the public welfare schemes of the country’s famous Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose objective is to protect the health of mothers and newborn babies.

So far, 4928 beneficiaries are enrolled under this scheme in Mahasamund district in the year 2025-26. Under the scheme, the first installment amount has been provided to 3914 women for their first child, while the second installment has also been paid to 3532 women. Apart from this, as per the provisions of the scheme, financial assistance has also been provided to 812 women on the birth of their second girl child. Under the scheme, after registration, Rs 3000 is provided in the seventh month of pregnancy and Rs 2000 is provided after the child is vaccinated three and a half months after delivery. If the delivery results in a girl child, mothers are given a special incentive of Rs 6,000, an initiative that gives dignity and security to the birth of a girl child.

This year, 3914 women beneficiaries have been benefited from the payment amount of the first installment released for the first child under the scheme in the district. In this sequence, the first installment amount has been provided to 292 female beneficiaries of Mahasamund urban area, 822 beneficiaries of Mahasamund rural area, 860 beneficiaries of Bagbahra development block, 579 beneficiaries of Pithora development block, 764 beneficiaries of Basna development block and 597 female beneficiaries of Saraipali development block. Similarly, 3532 women beneficiaries have benefited from the payment of the second installment under the scheme. In this, the second installment amount has been provided to 214 female beneficiaries of Mahasamund urban area, 615 beneficiaries of Mahasamund rural area, 796 beneficiaries of Bagbahra development block, 492 beneficiaries of Pithora development block, 763 beneficiaries of Basna development block and 652 female beneficiaries of Saraipali development block. Apart from this, 72 women beneficiaries of Mahasamund urban area are among the beneficiaries paid under the incentive scheme on the birth of the second girl child. Whereas 171 women beneficiaries of Bagbahra development block, 96 of Pithora development block, 160 of Basna development block and 100 of Saraipali development block have been benefited by paying the prescribed amount under the scheme.

Mothers benefiting from the scheme said that this financial support has made it easier to get nutritious diet, regular health check-ups and necessary care during pregnancy. This has not only improved the health of mothers but also strengthened the safe birth and healthy future of newborn babies.
The Women and Child Development Department, with the help of Anganwadi workers and the Health Department, is continuously registering eligible beneficiaries and an awareness campaign is also being run to provide them the benefits of the scheme. As per the intention of the government, efforts are being made to connect every eligible pregnant woman of the district with the scheme, so that no eligible woman is deprived of the benefits of this scheme.
