Raipur : Self. Due to the promptness, high-level medical management and coordinated teamwork of the doctors of Sant Baba Guru Ghasidas Ji Smriti Government Hospital, Raigarh, affiliated to Lakhiram Aggwal Memorial Government Medical College, a 23-year-old first-time pregnant woman was successfully saved from a very serious condition like peripartum cardiac arrest.
The patient was a 23-year-old woman who was pregnant for the first time, suffering from pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure in pregnancy). Who was brought in a very critical condition from a private hospital to the emergency department of the Medical College on 02 February 2026 at around 12 noon with extremely high blood pressure and severe difficulty in breathing. Examination by the doctor confirmed pulmonary edema (filling of lungs with water), which is a life-threatening condition. Considering the seriousness of the situation, the decision for immediate emergency cesarean section (LSCS) was taken. During treatment, the patient suddenly suffered peripartum cardiac arrest.
Dr . A.M. Lakra (Head of the Department Anesthesia) said that our medical team immediately identified the situation and started high quality CPR. With quick and coordinated efforts the patient’s heart rhythm was restored. The patient was then placed in the ICU on ventilator support, where intensive monitoring and systematic post-cardiac arrest care was provided.
After being on ventilator support for about three days, the patient’s condition steadily improved. The ventilator was gradually removed under the supervision of specialist doctors and finally on 12 February 2026, the patient was shifted from ICU to the ward. Today the patient was successfully treated and discharged.
This complex and life-saving procedure is being conducted by Dr. Anand Masih Lakra, Head of the Department of Anesthesia, along with Dr. T.K., Head of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. Sahu and Dr. Chandrabhanu Pankra, Dr. Ashok Singh Sidar, Dr. Lesh Patel, Dr. Anish, Dr. Lakshmi Yadav, Dr. Amit Bhoi, Dr. Subhash Raj and the Operation Theater (OT) staff provided excellent support in this challenging situation.
Hospital Superintendent Dr. M.K. Minz said this success was the result of early recognition, high-quality CPR, quick decisions, and multidisciplinary coordinated team efforts. This incident shows that if expert medical care is available in a high-risk pregnancy, even in the most serious circumstances, lives can be saved.
