Madhepura. A major accident has come to light after eating mid-day meal in Madhepura district of Bihar. The health of more than 70 children suddenly deteriorated after having food in the upgraded middle school Karu Tola, Sahugarh of Sadar block. Shortly after eating the food, the children started complaining of vomiting, stomach ache, dizziness and nervousness, due to which there was chaos in the school premises.
According to eyewitnesses, seeing the condition of the children deteriorating rapidly, the teachers immediately informed the local administration and health department. After this, with the help of ambulance and private vehicles, all the sick children were taken to Madhepura Sadar Hospital. The team of doctors in the hospital started treatment immediately.
Doctors say that the condition of most of the children is now stable and they are out of danger. However, during treatment, the condition of a girl is said to be critical, who has been kept under special observation. As soon as information about the incident was received, the family members of the children reached the hospital in large numbers, which created a tense atmosphere there too.
According to preliminary information, there is a possibility of a lizard falling in the mid-day meal, due to which the food may become poisonous. However, this can be officially confirmed only after the investigation report comes. The school administration immediately stopped the food distribution as a precautionary measure and the leftover food has been kept safe so that it can be examined.
It is reported that mid-day meal was provided in the school through an NGO. This incident has once again raised serious questions on the quality, hygiene and monitoring system of mid-day meals.
According to media reports, as soon as the information about the incident was received, District Education Officer (DEO) Sanjay Kumar reached Sadar Hospital and inquired about the well being of the children. He said that the entire matter is being investigated seriously. The DEO clarified that if negligence is revealed at any level in the investigation, strict action will be taken against those responsible.
