Jaisalmer. The Indian Air Force for the first time showcased the country’s strategic might by releasing the official video of the operation of Sudarshan, the Indian version of its state-of-the-art air defense system S-400 Triumf. This video has come to light at a time when preparations for the mega exercise Vayu Shakti-2026 to be held at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in Rajasthan are in their final stages. The message shared by the Air Force along with the video has attracted considerable attention in military circles. It is claimed that this system has carried out the longest range strike ever in military history. Although the nature of the target, its exact distance and operational conditions have not been officially disclosed, the indications are clear that this achievement will take India’s air defense capabilities to new heights.
According to the Air Force, this historic success was achieved during Operation Sindoor conducted in May last year. According to defense sources, in this operation, the S-400 Sudarshan system accurately hit and neutralized the air target located about 300 kilometers away across the border. Although independent confirmation or detailed technical details of this action have not been made public, but if this claim is true then it can be recorded in the global military history as a long-range air defense action. S-400 Sudarshan is called the impenetrable shield of the sky in the Indian security apparatus. This multi-layered air defense system is capable of simultaneously tracking and destroying many types of air threats – fighter aircraft, drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles. Technically, this system can engage targets at a maximum range of up to 400 kilometers and can simultaneously track multiple targets flying at different heights. Its high-end radar capability enables it to assess threats from long ranges and respond quickly. Experts believe that such a system provides a multi-layered shield to the air security of any country. This not only thwarts the attack but also establishes a strong deterrent to the potential enemy.
