Meerut: After the great success of Operation Sindoor, now the Central Government is preparing to make Meerut the hub of defense technology of the country. The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has issued a formal tender for the construction of the country’s first dedicated unmanned aircraft (UAV) and drone runway in Meerut. This runway will take India’s strategic and tactical power to new heights.

Till now, normal airstrips have been used for drone operations in India, but this will be the first time that a special state-of-the-art runway has been designed only for drones and Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA).

It is being told that its total cost is Rs 406 crore (estimated). About 900 acres of land has been earmarked for the project and it may take about 85 months i.e. about seven years to complete. Not only will the borders be monitored from here, but it will also become the country’s major training center for drone pilots.

According to the information shared by BRO, the design of this runway (14/32) is very advanced. The runway will be 2110 meters long and 45 meters wide. It is being built in such a way that along with drones, huge cargo aircraft like C-295 and C-130 can also land and operate safely here.
