Raipur : Tomato grafting is a good way to increase plant yields and reduce the risk of root system diseases and disorders. This increases the strength of the plants, increases the yield and also eliminates the problem of rotting of the upper part of the roots. In Balodabazar-Bhatapara district, excellent results are being seen in vegetable cultivation using grafted technology. Farmer Yuvraj Sahu’s father Shri Ramnarayan Sahu of Bhatapara block of the district has earned a net profit of about Rs 3 lakh per acre in one season by cultivating grafted tomatoes.

Less water and labor cost also less
Yuvraj Sahu told that earlier he used to cultivate tomatoes in the traditional way, then there was the problem of drying of plants and problems of diseases, due to which there was a lot of loss. This demonstration by the Horticulture Department is proving to be successful in connecting farmers with new technology and increasing vegetable production. The incidence of disease in grafted tomatoes is less as compared to normal farming. At the same time, production is obtained in all three seasons. There is less water and labor costs also. Due to strengthening of plants, production has improved, due to which farmers are getting financial benefits.
Tomato cultivation gives production 2 to 3 times a year.
The farmer told that this tomato, which is produced through grafted method, can be cultivated 2 to 3 times in a year. While this is also a tomato like normal tomato, it is used more in vegetables. Under the National Agricultural Development Scheme, farmers are given an amount of Rs. per demonstration by the Horticulture Department. A grant of Rs 30000 is being given. The department is selecting 188 farmers of the district and giving them the benefits of this scheme.
