Raipur : The women of Gram Panchayat Jhatibin under Farasgaon development block of Kondagaon district have presented an inspiring example of self-reliance through the National Rural Livelihood Mission “Bihaan”. Launched by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India in the year 2011, the objective of this scheme is to economically empower rural women by organizing them through self-help groups.

The work of manufacturing herbal gulal was started from 02 February 2020 under the leadership of Sushila, President of Shitala Self-Help Group of village Jhatibin and Secretary Sumitra. The group received financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh through bank linkage. So far, the group has earned an income of Rs 5,20,300 by producing herbal gulal at a cost of Rs 3,09,900, resulting in a net profit of Rs 2,10,400.

Keeping in mind the Holi festival this year, the women of the group have prepared about 5 quintals of herbal gulal at a cost of Rs 72,750. Made from natural flowers and plants, this gulal is chemical free, safe for the skin and environment friendly. Compared to chemical colours, herbal gulal is less likely to cause skin allergies, irritation or damage to the eyes. Besides, it does not pollute the soil and water sources, which also promotes environmental protection.

This journey from an ordinary housewife to becoming a successful entrepreneur is the result of hard work, self-confidence and collective efforts of women. The National Rural Livelihood Mission has not only provided them employment, but has also provided them a powerful means to strengthen the economic condition of the family.

This Holi, celebrate colors with your loved ones with herbal gulal and support women empowerment by adopting products manufactured by local self-help groups.
