Competitive students demonstrated strongly in Prayagraj today against Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC). In this movement called by the joint competitive student ‘Hunkar’ platform, mainly five demands were raised, which include release of cutoff list, making the marks public, release of revised answer key and uploading of OMR sheet. Students allege that there is a lack of transparency in the PCS-2024 and RO-ARO 2023 examinations. There was a lot of commotion during this period.
During the movement, another student group also joined, which raised the issue of migration in reservation. He said that general category candidates are passing with less marks, while SC/ST/OBC and other category candidates are not able to pass due to being kept in reserved category despite scoring higher marks. Initially both the groups appeared to be separate on this issue, but later came together after an agreement.
SP chief Akhilesh Yadav expressed his objection to the arrest and assault of students during this movement and took a jibe at the state government. While posting, he accused the students and youth of insulting them.
Both groups gave 15 days ultimatum
The students of Hunkar Manch made it clear that they will submit the memorandum only on their basic five demands. At the same time, the other group agreed and said that along with the demands of Hunkar Manch, they will also include the demand for migration in reservation in the memorandum. Both the groups together submitted a memorandum to the Commission and gave an ultimatum of 15 days. The students warned that if their demands were not resolved within 15 days, a major agitation would be launched.
Akhilesh Yadav’s taunt
Akhilesh Yadav expressed his displeasure over the behavior of police towards students. He posted on his social media handle X and targeted the BJP government. He said, “What the BJP government of Uttar Pradesh is doing by inhumanely assaulting the youth going through the pain of unemployment and humiliating them by holding their hair is actually the arrogance of power of the BJP, which is showing its power by becoming inhuman. The BJP should not forget that the youth studying do not want to fight, they are just demanding the purification of the job process in a clean manner.
He said that we stand as a moral force with the competing candidates. We strongly demand an SIR in the context of the allegations on the faulty examination system and corrupt selection process of the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission. The youth will never forgive BJP for this barbaric behaviour. There is no job in BJP’s agenda! If BJP goes, jobs will come.
