Raipur : The efforts being made to eradicate malnutrition in Chhattisgarh are showing positive results. Due to the schemes run by the Women and Child Development Department and constant monitoring by the officials, children suffering from malnutrition are getting a new life. An inspiring example of this has been seen in the Anganwadi center Palanar Schoolpara of Gram Panchayat Palanar under Reddy Sector of Bijapur Project, where innocent Riyansh, suffering from severe malnutrition, has completely recovered and has come back to normal category.
Child Riyansh, father Bablu Tati and mother Mrs. Namila Tati, registered in Anganwadi center, were found to be in a state of severe malnutrition during regular weight and health checkup. At that time the child’s weight was recorded as only 6 kg 200 grams and length was 62.1 cm, which was very short for his age. Considering the seriousness of the situation, he was included in the special monitoring list and the immediate treatment process was started.
Project Bijapur team, supervisor, Anganwadi workers, assistants, Gram Panchayat Secretary and Sarpanch had commendable contribution in this work. For better treatment and nutritional management, Riyansh was admitted to the Nutrition Rehabilitation Center (NRC), where he was provided a balanced diet, necessary medicines, regular health check-ups and nutritional counseling to his mother. At the time of discharge from NRC, the child’s weight increased to 7 kg.
Even after returning from NRC, regular weight monitoring of Riansh, hot cooked food, nutritious food, health check-up and continuous counseling with the family was done by the Anganwadi center. The family also took regular advantage of Anganwadi services by showing awareness and cooperation.
The result of continuous care and collective efforts is that today Riyash is completely healthy, active and energetic. Currently his weight is 10 kg and height is 81.2 cm. His activity, cheerfulness and healthy physical development are proof that he has now come into the normal range and is moving towards a healthy future.
This success story of Riansh is a living example of the fact that if timely identification, quality health and nutrition services, strong Anganwadi system, Panchayat and family support come together, then a serious challenge like malnutrition can be effectively overcome.
