After the tension that arose in Chaumu recently, the situation is now completely under control. As a precautionary measure, internet services have been closed for 24 hours in the town for the second day today.
Actually, a dispute had arisen over the installation of iron railing near a religious place, which turned violent at midnight on Christmas Day. During this time, some people of a particular community pelted stones at the police, due to which there was chaos in the area and many policemen were injured. Considering the seriousness of the incident, senior police officers were deployed on the spot and the entire town was converted into a cantonment. Jaipur (West) DCP Hanuman Prasad Meena, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Dr. Rajeev Pachar and Special Commissioner of Police (Operations) Rahul Prakash were present at the spot to handle the situation.
DCP Hanuman Prasad Meena said that at present the situation is completely under control, but as a precaution, additional police force is still deployed. So far, 110 stone pelters have been detained as part of the action, including more than half a dozen women. Of these, 25 people have been arrested. He said that the accused have been identified on the basis of CCTV footage, videos and local inputs. Cases have been registered against the arrested accused under serious sections like obstruction in official work, attempt to murder and damage to government property. The action will continue further also.
Strict surveillance and security arrangements
Strict security arrangements have been made in Chaumu city after the incident. Additional police forces are deployed at major intersections, religious places and sensitive areas. Monitoring is also being done through drones and CCTV cameras, so that any untoward incident can be prevented. The police and administration have appealed to the general public to maintain peace and stay away from rumours. The administration says that strict action will be taken against those who play with law and order. At present, life is normal in the city and markets have opened.
