New Delhi: Petrol and diesel prices in the country are updated every day at 6 am. Major oil companies like Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum decide these rates keeping in mind international crude oil prices, dollar-rupee exchange rate and other economic factors.
Today, on February 1, the prices of petrol and diesel remain stable in most major cities, although slight fluctuations have been seen in some areas. Petrol in Delhi is at ₹ 94.77 per liter and diesel at ₹ 87.67 per liter. This stability just before the budget is a matter of relief for the common people.
Petrol prices in major metros
The price of petrol in the country’s capital New Delhi remains at ₹ 94.77 per liter. In the financial hub Mumbai it is ₹ 103.54 per liter, while in Kolkata it has reached ₹ 105.41 and in Chennai it has reached ₹ 100.80 per liter. In the cities of North India, it is ₹ 95.50 in Gurgaon, ₹ 95.16 in Noida, ₹ 94.69 in Lucknow and ₹ 104.62 in Jaipur. In the south it is ₹ 102.92 in Bengaluru, ₹ 107.50 in Hyderabad and ₹ 101.03 in Bhubaneswar. Petrol is available at ₹ 105.43 per liter in the eastern city of Patna and ₹ 107.48 per liter in Thiruvananthapuram.
Diesel prices in major cities
In case of diesel, it is ₹ 87.67 per liter in Delhi. It is ₹ 90.03 in Mumbai, ₹ 92.02 in Kolkata and ₹ 92.39 per liter in Chennai. It is ₹87.97 in Gurgaon, ₹88.31 in Noida, ₹90.99 in Bengaluru and ₹92.60 in Bhubaneswar. Diesel is cheapest in Chandigarh at ₹82.45. Diesel is being sold at ₹ 95.70 in Hyderabad, ₹ 90.12 in Jaipur, ₹ 87.81 in Lucknow, ₹ 91.67 in Patna and ₹ 96.48 per liter in Thiruvananthapuram.
How are the prices of petrol and diesel decided?
The prices of petrol and diesel in India are not controlled at the central level, but are market based. International crude oil prices, global events, currency exchange rates, taxes and local taxes are the major factors. Companies assess these daily. Despite the fluctuations in crude oil in recent months, the domestic market is showing stability. However, due to the turmoil being created by America, it cannot be said for how long this stability will last.
