Balrampur: Meena Ravi of village Marma of Ramchandrapur Janpad Panchayat of the district has given a new direction to her and her family’s future by joining the self-help group. Meena, who once struggled to earn two meals a day, has today become a strong example of self-reliance and women empowerment.
Till a few years ago, Meena Ravi’s life was surrounded by privations. The financial condition of the family was very weak. They had to work as laborers to meet the household expenses, only then they could go somewhere to get food for the house. Due to limited income, it seemed difficult to imagine children’s education and a better future. Every day brought a new challenge for him.
During this time, the decision to join a women’s self-help group brought changes in Meena’s life. This gave them a regular source of income. Besides, he also handled the work of Cash Credit Limit (CCL) in the village. Gradually his monthly income increased from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000.
With the support received from the group, Meena took a total loan of Rs 60,000 in four installments from the self-help group and started a ration shop along with her husband. And today his shop is earning around Rs 1,50,000 annually. With his hard work and the loan received from the group, he purchased 5 decimal land and established his shop on the same land. Which proved to be an important step towards becoming self-reliant. Now Meena Ravi is becoming self-reliant and earning income of lakhs of rupees and is being known as Lakhpati Didi. They are able to fulfill all the needs related to children’s education and family. She says that if women get the right opportunities, guidance and financial support, they can become empowered and change the direction of the entire family and society.
