KCC scam of Rs 646 crore in Chhattisgarh, big revelation in cooperative banks

Chhattisgarh KCC Scam: has raised serious questions on the cooperative banking system of the state. A major irregularity of about Rs 646 crore in the name of Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loan has been revealed in the cooperative banks of Chhattisgarh. In the investigation so far, scams worth Rs 43 crore in Ambikapur and Rs 9 crore in Barmkela have been confirmed. It is alleged that with the connivance of committees and bank officials, fake loans were sanctioned in the name of farmers and the amount was embezzled.

Data reveals layers of confusion

Chhattisgarh KCC Scam came to light when a big difference was seen in the data of Apex Bank. In the year 2024-25, KCC loan of Rs 7,908 crore was given to 15.22 lakh farmers. At the same time, in 2025-26, 15.56 lakh farmers got loans worth only Rs 7,262 crore. That means the number of farmers increased, but the total loan amount decreased by Rs 646 crore. The whole matter came to light due to this discrepancy and continuous complaints of farmers.

How was the scam carried out

Investigation revealed that only those farmers who had never taken loan or who were illiterate were targeted. The committees selected such farmers whose mobile numbers had been changed. Fake loan applications were prepared using loan books and information of farmers. After the loan was approved, the amount first came into the committee’s account, then was transferred to the KCC account and from there to the savings account. With the connivance of bank officials, fake vouchers were made and finally the amount was withdrawn in cash from the DCMR account.

Why was such a big game made?

Electoral politics is believed to be a major reason behind the Chhattisgarh KCC Scam. KCC loan waiver is often promised at the time of elections. After the loan waiver by the Congress government in 2018, it was believed that farmers would not be aware of it. Taking advantage of this thinking, officials and committees embezzled crores of rupees. Now the investigation into this scam has intensified and further big revelations are expected.
