Indore Water Crisis: Is becoming increasingly serious. The number of people who lost their lives due to drinking contaminated water in Indore has now reached 17. The latest case is of retired policeman Omprakash Sharma (69), who died during treatment. Omprakash Sharma was originally a resident of Shiv Vihar Colony in Dhar district and had come to Indore to meet his son.
According to family members, on January 1, he complained of vomiting and diarrhea, after which he was admitted to a private hospital. Investigation revealed that his kidneys were seriously damaged. When his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to ICU on January 2 and was put on ventilator on January 4, where he died during treatment. Family members allege that Omprakash Sharma was only a blood pressure patient and his health deteriorated due to drinking contaminated water.
In view of Indore Water Crisis, the Health Department has started a large-scale survey in Bhagirathpura area. On January 4, a door-to-door survey of 2354 houses was conducted, in which 9416 people were examined. During this period, 20 new patients have appeared. 5 ambulances have been deployed in the area to deal with the situation.
The survey team includes Jan Abhiyan Parishad members, community health officers, Asha and Anganwadi workers, ANMs, supervisors and NGOs. Chlorine tablets are being distributed in the affected areas. Besides, 10 ORS packets and 30 zinc tablets are being provided to every house.
Meanwhile, Congress has announced a demonstration in Indore on January 11 regarding the deaths due to contaminated water and the statement of Cabinet Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya. The state government will present a detailed report of this case in the Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court on January 6.
