Raipur : Under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA), beneficial works are being done to connect rural families with livelihood. Well construction is also included in these works, the objective of which is to increase the income of farmers by providing them irrigation facilities.
Shri Vadde Nagaiah, resident of Gram Panchayat Dampaya under Bhopalpatnam development block of Bijapur district, has directly benefited from the MNREGA scheme. He has about one and a half acres of agricultural land. In the financial year 2023-24, a well was constructed in his farm under MNREGA at a cost of Rs 2 lakh 10 thousand.
Additional income of about Rs 10 thousand from vegetable farming
With the construction of the well, regular irrigation of the fields became possible. With this, Shri Nagaiah started vegetable production along with paddy cultivation. He earned an additional income of about Rs 10 thousand from vegetable farming. Apart from this, he manufactured about 50 thousand bricks from the well water, out of which he earned an income of about Rs 40 thousand by selling 20 thousand bricks.
MNREGA also helps in construction of pucca houses
The manufactured bricks are being used in the construction of a house sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) in the name of his father Mr. Vadde Ella. In this way, the well built under MNREGA not only became a source of income for them, but also proved helpful in the construction of a permanent house.
Self-reliant and empowered medium for rural families
The durable assets being created under MNREGA are providing employment, irrigation and permanent source of income to the villagers. Also, by connecting with other government schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, these works are making rural families self-reliant and empowered.
