Important initiative towards modern nursery development

Raipur : Hydroponics technology is being used by Chhattisgarh Forest Development Corporation for the production and training of plants, so that soil-less farming can be promoted. Water and land can be saved and the livelihood of women self-help groups (SHGs) and farmers can increase. A three-day training workshop on hydroponics technology was organized by Chhattisgarh State Forest Development Corporation from 18 to 20 December 2025. The objective of this workshop was to provide information about plant production through modern and scientific methods and to promote nursery development.

Practical training given on tree planting

In the workshop, participants were given practical training on planting saplings in trays by mixing media like cocopeat, vermicompost and solarite in the right proportion. In this, plants of different species with soft stem (softwood) and hard stem (hardwood) were planted. Preparation and use of solution containing nutrients for better growth of plants was also taught.

Need for drip irrigation system to save water

During the three-day training, the participants learned various methods of hydroponics by doing it themselves. In particular, the importance of drip irrigation system was explained, which can provide essential nutrition to plants in less water and saves water.

Scheme to make plants available for sale in the market

At the conclusion of the workshop, the hydroponic indoor ornamental plants prepared by the participants will be distributed as souvenirs by the Corporation. There are also plans to make these plants available for sale in the market in the future, which will generate additional income for the corporation and promote environment-friendly production. On this occasion, the guidance and visionary thinking of Managing Director Shri Prem Kumar was appreciated. On his instructions, steps are being taken towards the development of modern nurseries using hydroponics technology in various divisions of the corporation.

Promotion of kitchen gardens and terrace gardens

Under the upcoming action plan, special emphasis will also be laid on developing consultancy services in future to promote kitchen gardens and terrace gardens. The workshop was attended by officers and field staff from various divisions of the Corporation, who showed keen interest in this new technology and actively participated on all three days. This three-day workshop will prove to be an important and commendable initiative of Chhattisgarh State Forest Development Corporation in the direction of innovation, environment protection, water conservation, sustainable plant production and economic benefits.
