In Sanatan Dharma, Ekadashi date is considered dedicated to Lord Shri Hari Vishnu. Lord Vishnu is worshiped every month by observing a fast on Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha. Generally, there are 24 Ekadashi fasts in a year, but in the year 2026, there will be a total of 26 Ekadashi fasts. The main reason for this is the onset of Adhik Maas.
In the Hindu calendar, approximately every 32 months by 16 days, an additional month is added, called Adhikamas, due to the increasing difference in the solar and lunar years. It is also known as Purushottam month. In the year 2026, Adhikamaas will be from 17th May to 15th June 2026. During this period, all fasts are observed like other months, including Ekadashi. For this reason, two additional Ekadashi will fall this year, Padmini Ekadashi on 27 May 2026 and Param Ekadashi on 11 June 2026. For this reason, the total number of Ekadashi in the year 2026 becomes 26.
