Bhopal : Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has said that milk production will be increased in the state to make cattle rearers and milk producers self-reliant in every possible way. This is an important step towards building a self-reliant Madhya Pradesh. ‘Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Kamdhenu Yojana has been started. This scheme has emerged as a ray of hope especially for those needy youth, farmers and cattle herders who want to develop a permanent source of income by setting up a modern dairy unit. The main objective of the scheme is to promote milk production in the state, create new employment opportunities in rural areas and increase the income of cattle herders.
Under Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Kamdhenu Yojana, beneficiaries are given an opportunity to set up a unit of 25 milch animals. Willing and capable beneficiaries can also set up a dairy project with a maximum of 8 units i.e. up to 200 animals. This scheme has been designed keeping in mind small to medium scale dairy entrepreneurs. An important condition of the scheme is that the interested beneficiary should have at least 3.50 acres of agricultural land available for each unit. This arrangement of land is necessary for housing of animals, provision of fodder and proper operation of dairy. Along with this, the government is also giving importance to professional training of cattle rearers/milk producers, so that the cattle rearers can run their dairy business with scientific and modern methods. Providing financial assistance to cattle farmers is the most attractive aspect of this scheme. Subsidy is also being given by the government on the total cost of the project.
Beneficiaries belonging to Scheduled Castes and Tribes are being given a grant of 33 percent of the total project cost and all other categories are being given a grant of 25 percent. The remaining amount is being provided through bank loan. With this provision, the hurdle of big investment is reduced to a great extent and starting a dairy business also becomes easier. Special emphasis has been laid on transparency in the selection of beneficiaries in the scheme. The application process is online and selection is generally done on a “first come, first served” basis. Besides, priority is also being given to those cattle farmers who are already continuously supplying milk to any milk unions or cooperative institutions. Documents like Aadhar card, residence certificate, land documents, bank account details, caste certificate (if applicable) and training certificate are required for application. Interested applicants can also get detailed information and guidance from the official portal of the Animal Husbandry and Dairying Department or the Veterinary Services Office of their district.
