Raipur : Sukma district has hoisted the flag of success in ‘Bastar Pandum 2026’ organized for the preservation of the glorious culture, art and traditions of Bastar division. In this grand divisional level competition organized at Lal Bagh ground in Jagdalpur, Sukma’s tribal theater troupe Vidhya was awarded the first prize for its excellent presentation.
The country’s Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai honored the artists of Sukma by presenting mementoes and a check of Rs 50,000.

Unique initiative to preserve culture

The main objective of this program organized under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai is to save the original form of traditional dance, songs, food, crafts and regional literature of Bastar and to provide a big platform to the local artists. This initiative of the administration is not only reviving the extinct species, but is also paving the way for the sustainable development of the tribal groups.

Sukma artists won the competition

Under the guidance of Collector Amit Kumar and efficient management of District CEO Mukund Thakur, a total of 69 artists from 12 genres from Sukma district displayed their art.

The team of Parla Gatta, a dependent village of remote Gram Panchayat Kondasanwali of Konta development block, won the first place in the drama genre.

The 13-member troupe (9 men, 4 women) from the Mudiya tribe enthralled the audience by artistically using objects of daily use like palm leaves, peacock feathers, bows and arrows and fishing nets.

These artists brought pride to the district

Artists Lekam Lakka, Prakash Sodi, Vinod Sodi, Joga Sudam and their team, residents of Parla Gatta located in Konta development block, have made Sukma district proud with their talent. Nodal officers Maniram Markam and P Srinivas Rao had a special contribution in this success of the artists, who played an important role in promoting and encouraging the artists to reach the divisional level.
