Ranchi: Jharkhand Transport Department has prepared a comprehensive action plan to control the increasing road accidents in the state. This plan has been made following the instructions of the Supreme Court, so that deaths in road accidents can be effectively stopped. The Transport Secretary has sent this plan to the DCs and SPs of all the districts.
Jharkhand Police’s Road Safety DIG Dhananjay Kumar Singh has also asked the officers to ensure strict compliance with the instructions. This scheme was presented in the Supreme Court by Dr. S. It has been prepared keeping in mind the order of the case Rajashekhar vs. Union of India.
Helmet rules and strictness on highway entry
Under the action plan, sections 128, 129 and 194D of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988 will be strictly enforced. Helmet will be mandatory for both the two-wheeler driver and the pillion rider. CCTV cameras will be installed to identify riders without helmets and action may be taken up to cancellation of license.
Also, a strict ban on entry of two-wheelers on expressways and high-speed corridors will be implemented.
Monitoring fitness and illegal lights
The fitness checking process of vehicles will be made transparent and strict. The monitoring system will be strengthened to prevent corruption in fitness certification.
Apart from this, strict action will be taken against white LED, flashing light, blue light and illegal hooters. Violation of rules will result in confiscation and fine.
