CGPSC Exam Scam: In the much talked about scam related to Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC) Recruitment Examination 2021, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has completed the investigation and filed the final charge sheet of about 400 pages in the court. A total of 29 people have been accused in this charge sheet, which includes officers, industrialists, selected candidates and a coaching operator. CBI says that this entire case was carried out as part of a well-planned conspiracy, in which serious irregularities were committed, from question paper leak to the selection process.
Coaching director made special preparation for the candidates
CBI investigation has revealed that a coaching operator made some suspicious candidates undergo special preparation before the examination in a hotel in Baranwapara area of Mahasamund district. The agency claims that this operator already had the question paper of CGPSC 2021 and on the basis of that the candidates were taught in a targeted manner. Even before this, CBI has presented challan against 13 accused in this case. At present, 12 accused are in judicial custody, while Utkarsh Chandrakar is absconding, whose role is said to be in creating irregularities in the examination process.
Many big names included in the chargesheet
According to the chargesheet, many influential names including the then CGPSC Chairman Taman Singh Sonwani, Controller of Examinations Aarti Wasnik, the then director of Bajrang Power and Ispat Shravan Kumar Goyal, his son Shashank Goyal and daughter-in-law Bhumika Katiyar are involved in this scam. All of them are accused of misusing their position and influence to include people close to them in the selection list. CBI claims that many candidates from industrialists and politically influential families were appointed to important posts like Deputy Collector.
Investigation also revealed that more than 13 candidates in the top-20 selection list of CGPSC 2021 were relatives of some big official, leader or businessman. On this basis, a petition was filed in the court challenging the selection process, after which the case was handed over to CBI. The agency says that the role of the then controller of examinations Aarti Wasnik was very important and concrete evidence has been found of internal collusion from leaking of question papers to selection.
The exam question papers first reached Taman Singh Sonwani’s house.
According to CBI, the exam question papers first reached the house of Taman Singh Sonwani, from where they were given to other people. After this, the leaked paper reached the director of a private company through Deputy Examination Controller Lalit Ganveer. It is alleged that the selection of some candidates was ensured by preparing from the same leaked question paper. The investigation also revealed that the work of printing question papers was given to a printing company in Kolkata and from there the papers were brought to Raipur and copied illegally.
The scam happened between 2020 and 2021
CBI says that this entire scam is related to the recruitment processes that took place between the year 2020 and 2022, in which, ignoring transparency, their people were appointed to the posts of Deputy Collector, DSP and other gazetted posts. Eligible candidates were ignored and the selection list was arbitrarily influenced. Considering the seriousness of the case, the state government had handed over the investigation to CBI, after which important documents and incriminating evidence were recovered in several raids.
Recruitment was done on 171 posts
The recruitment process was conducted for a total of 171 posts in CGPSC Exam 2021. The preliminary examination was held in February 2022, in which thousands of candidates appeared. After this, the main examination was released in May 2022 and the final selection list in May 2023. Now after the final charge sheet is filed, the trial in this high-profile case is likely to begin soon.
