In today’s fast-paced life, sleeplessness has become a common problem. The hustle and bustle of the day, work pressure, mobile and laptop screens, and constantly racing thoughts, all together take away the night’s sleep. The body is tired, but as soon as we go to bed, the mind suddenly becomes completely active. Sometimes the tension of yesterday, sometimes something of today, and sometimes the worry of the future takes away sleep. Most of the people troubled by this problem immediately start taking sleeping pills or scrolling on mobile, but both these measures cause harm in the long run. Actually, we do not need any heavy solution, but just an easy habit of 5 minutes, which calms the mind and prepares it for sleep. This habit is ‘dhyana’ i.e. meditation.

5 minute meditation

Just 5 minutes of meditation before sleeping has a profound effect on both the mind and body. Meditation does not mean sitting in any difficult yoga asana. Simply sit or lie comfortably in bed, close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Neither speed up nor slow down the breathing, just feel the air going in and coming out. In these few minutes, the mind starts coming out of the confusion of the day. The thoughts which are revolving again and again, their speed gradually reduces. The heartbeat starts becoming normal and the body starts getting signals that now is the time to rest. This process takes the brain from active mode to relaxed mode. By meditating, the stress hormones start reducing, which reduces restlessness and nervousness. Just as using a mobile makes the mind alert, similarly meditation makes the mind calm. Many people think that the effect of meditation is visible after weeks, but the truth is that even just 5 minutes of meditation starts giving relief immediately.

Get relief from these problems

If you adopt this small habit every day before sleeping, then the problem of insomnia goes away and you get to sleep early at night. Also, the problem of falling asleep in between is reduced and upon waking up in the morning, the body feels light and the mind refreshed.
