Bhopal. Bhopal Metro train, which started with great expectations in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh (MP), is facing a huge shortage of passengers in the initial days itself. The situation has become such that the metro management has had to take a decision to change the timetable in the very second week. Now Bhopal Metro will run from 12 noon instead of morning. The new timetable will come into effect from January 5.
The people of Bhopal got the gift of metro train after waiting for many years. On December 20, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar inaugurated the Bhopal Metro by showing the green flag. The next day, on 21 December, the first commercial run for common citizens started.
Metro was running empty in the morning due to lack of passengers
The initial enthusiasm was definitely visible. On December 21, sales of metro tickets had reached around Rs 2.5 lakh. On the second day this figure came down to Rs 89 thousand. After this, the number of passengers kept decreasing day by day. The situation became such that in the morning the metro trains started running almost empty.
In view of this shortage of passengers, the metro management has made a major change in the timings. Now Bhopal Metro will leave from AIIMS Metro Station at 12:00 noon from January 5. This train will reach the final station Subhash Nagar at 12:25 via Alkapuri Station, DRM Office, Rani Kamlapati Station, MP Nagar, Board Office Square and Kendriya Vidyalaya.
Time table changed from January 5
Bhopal Metro PRO Arvind Soni said that the number of passengers is continuously decreasing and passengers are not being found in the train especially in the morning. For this reason, the management has also decided to reduce the number of trips. While initially the timetable for the metro was made for 17 trips, now it has been reduced to 13 trips.
Metro management believes that this decision was necessary considering the possible number of passengers at the moment in the afternoon. However, this difference between the claims made about Bhopal Metro and the ground reality is now raising questions whether Bhopal residents will be able to make Metro a part of their daily needs or not.
