Khargon: At least 200 parrots have died due to food poisoning on the banks of Narmada River in Khargone District of Madhya Pradesh. Officials gave this information on Friday. Officials said that in the last four days, parrots have been found dead near the aqueduct bridge built on the Narmada river in Barwah area. The possibility of bird flu has been ruled out in the post-mortem report.
District Wildlife Warden Tony Sharma said that some parrots were found alive during the rescue operation but the toxicity present in the food was so high that they died after some time. The death of the parrots sparked panic over bird flu in the area, although veterinary testing revealed no signs of infection. As a precautionary measure, the Forest Department has banned feeding birds around the Aqueduct Bridge and staff have been deployed there for monitoring.
Officials said that viscera samples of the dead birds have been sent to Jabalpur for further investigation. According to veterinary department officials, the parrots died due to food poisoning and improper diet. On the information of local people, teams of Veterinary Department, Forest Department and Wildlife Branch have been monitoring the area for the last four days.
