The terror of elephants is increasing in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh. The same herd of elephants coming out of the Dudhwa forest and reaching the fields, attacked a farmer and took his life. There is huge anger among the villagers after the incident and they are accusing the forest department of negligence. He says that complaints about the presence of elephants have been being made for a month, but till now the department has failed to take any concrete steps.
The incident took place at Chaukhada Farm in Majhgai Range, which falls in the buffer zone of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve. A herd of wild elephants from Nepal has been roaming in this area for the last several days. According to the villagers, elephants are repeatedly entering the fields and trampling the crops and causing huge losses to the farmers. For this reason, farmers are forced to camp in the fields to guard the fields at night.

Even on Monday night, the herd of elephants once again reached Chaukhada Farm. 50-year-old Ram Bahadur, who was monitoring the farm, was trying to drive away the elephants along with his companions. According to the villagers, as they tried to drive the elephants away from the fields using torches and voices, the herd suddenly became agitated. The elephants started chasing the villagers. Everyone somehow escaped, but Ram Bahadur unfortunately got trapped among the elephants.
According to eyewitnesses, several elephants from the herd surrounded him and slammed him hard. He died on the spot due to serious injuries. As soon as information about the incident was received, a large number of villagers gathered there and expressed anger. People say that the herd of elephants is present in this area for about a month, but the forest department neither increased surveillance nor took any effective action to safely divert the elephants towards the forest.

An official said that he has received information about the death of a middle-aged man in an elephant attack. According to preliminary investigation, when the herd of elephants were running fast, Ram Bahadur got trapped among them, due to which he died. He said that the Forest Department team is present on the spot and has also left for the spot.
The villagers have demanded that due to the continuous roaming of elephants, there is panic in the entire area. The administration should take security measures as soon as possible, increase proper monitoring and along with the protection of crops, provide compensation to the victim’s family.
