Raipur : 60-year-old Fulmat Bai of Navapara village of Podi Uprora development block of tribal-dominated Korba district used to struggle for every drop of water. Since there was no tap in the house, he had to go to Dhodhi, located two to three kilometers away, every day. It had become not just a compulsion for him, but a routine to fill a big vessel with water from the makeshift source near the drain and carry it home on his head.
During the rainy season, it was difficult to reach Dhodhi by taking risks on slippery roads and during the summer season, when the water level decreased, the problem became even more severe. The old woman, who earns her living by goat rearing, had been suffering this problem for years. But his life changed after he got tap connection in his house under Jal Jeevan Mission. Now water is regularly available from their tap every day at 8 am and 4 pm. Fulmat Bai says that now she does not have to go to Dhodhi, which is saving her time, labor and health.
Fulmat Bai also receives one thousand rupees per month under Mahtari Vandan Yojana, which becomes a big help in her daily expenses. Government schemes together have made their life simple, safe and respectable.
