Raipur : Supreme Court Chief Justice Justice Surya Kant today visited the country’s first digital museum built at the Tribal Research and Training Institute in the capital Nava Raipur. He said that this tribal museum of Chhattisgarh is unique. He said that every citizen of the country should be aware of tribal history and culture.

The Chief Justice closely looked at each gallery in the museum on the movements and bravery stories of the tribal freedom fighters of Chhattisgarh. He said that the memories of tribal movements in this museum will inspire people to unite against exploitation and injustice and resist it.

Principal Secretary of the Tribal Department, Sonmani Bora, who reached the Tribal Museum, cordially welcomed Supreme Court Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice P.S. Narasimha, Justice Prashant Kumar, High Court Bilaspur Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha, Rajasthan Chief Justice Kalpathy Rajendran Sriram and other judges along with Biranmala and presented them a mural based on tribal life as a memento.

During the visit to the Tribal Museum, Principal Secretary Bora gave detailed information about the background of tribal rebellions and tribal heroes to Chief Justice Surya Kant and other judges. Bora has tried to explain the rebellions displayed in different galleries of the museum through the symbolic leaves of Sal, Saja and Mahua trees. This tree in the museum is similar to the way in motion films an old man narrates the story of the film.

Chief Justice Surya Kant was impressed to know about the Bhumkal rebellion displayed in the Tribal Museum. This rebellion took place in the year 1910 around Chitrakote in Bastar region. The rebellion, led by 20-year-old Jananayak Gundadhur, was against colonial forest policies, exploitation of landlords and external interference, in which tribals turned against the British with traditional weapons. The Chief Justice also inspected the weapons used during the rebellion by other tribal heroes including the sword of Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh in the museum.

The Chief Justice was greatly impressed by the symbolic digital temple of Maa Danteshwari installed in the gallery. He had darshan of Maa Danteshwari by ringing the bell twice. He expressed his desire to go to Bastar (Dantewada) in the future and have the personal darshan of Maa Danteshwari.

It is noteworthy that this grand digital museum was dedicated to the people on 01 November 2025 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of Chhattisgarh Rajyotsav Silver Jubilee. Since then this museum has remained a center of attraction and enthusiasm for the visitors. Considering the attraction and popularity of this museum among the public, an action plan for its second phase expansion is being prepared.

It is noteworthy that under the guidance of Principal Secretary of Tribal Development Department, Sonmani, the construction of the museum based on tribal culture and traditions and the Veer Narayan Singh Memorial cum Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum has been completed rapidly. On the instructions of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, from construction to inauguration, under the leadership of department officers and employees, each and every aspect was carefully examined and the foundation of the museum was ready. Once the museum comes into existence, it will remind the new generations of the bravery and courage of their ancestors. This is an inspiration not only for the tribals but for all the people.
