Raipur : Under the Prime Minister’s National Dialysis Program (Jeevandhara), free hemodialysis service is being provided to kidney patients in MCB district, from which more than five thousand patients have benefited so far. This facility is proving to be a boon especially for the patients of economically weaker and rural areas, who earlier had to go to other districts or outside the state for treatment.

Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Avinash Khare said that the Prime Minister’s National Dialysis Program was started in the district from October 1, 2024, which was inaugurated by State Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal. In the last one and a half year, successful dialysis has been done for more than 5,210 patients so far. These include negative 3503, positive (C) 1474 and positive (B) 232 patients. At present this facility is being provided completely free of cost in the 220 bedded district hospital located in Manendragarh. He said that dialysis is necessary for those patients whose kidney function has been affected by more than 90 percent. Especially patients suffering from complications like stage-5 chronic kidney disease, sudden kidney failure, uncontrolled diabetes and high blood pressure require this treatment.

Through the process of dialysis, patients are given relief by removing waste materials and excess fluid from the body. According to health experts, when the kidneys are unable to meet the needs of the body, toxins start accumulating in the body, conditions like excessive fatigue, vomiting, difficulty in breathing or filling of water in the lungs arise, then dialysis becomes necessary. This process can be both temporary or permanent depending on the condition of the patient. This free facility available in the district hospital has reduced the financial burden of the patients and they are getting timely treatment, which has increased both the quality and trust of health services in the district.
