Sunetra Pawar, wife of late NCP leader Ajit Pawar, has become the first woman Deputy CM of Maharashtra. Governor Acharya Devvrat administered him the oath of office as Deputy Chief Minister. On this occasion, a meeting of NCP Legislative Party and Legislative Council members was called at Vidhan Bhawan to elect Sunetra as the party leader.
Sharad Pawar did not attend the swearing in ceremony
Before taking oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Sunetra Pawar had resigned from the post of Rajya Sabha MP. Sunetra’s swearing-in ceremony lasted for about 12 minutes. Many leaders including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Eknath Shinde were present during the swearing-in of Sunetra Pawar. However, Sharad Pawar did not attend Sunetra’s swearing-in ceremony.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed happiness over Sunetra Pawar becoming the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Entry into politics from 2024 Lok Sabha elections
Sunetra Pawar has graduated from Commerce. Both his father Bajirao and brother Padmasingh Patel are associated with politics. Sunetra had entered politics in the Lok Sabha elections in the year 2024. In this election he had to face defeat from Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule. However, she was elected unopposed as Rajya Sabha MP on 18 June 2024. Before taking up the post of Deputy CM, he left the post of Rajya Sabha MP.
