Raipur : A special initiative has been started by the government with the aim of increasing interest in science and commerce subjects among the students of Scheduled Caste and Tribe category in Naxal affected districts of the state and to overcome the shortage of teachers.
Under the Aryabhatta Science-Commerce Education Promotion Scheme, 500-500 seater science and commerce teaching centers have been established in Durg and Jagdalpur by the government. Due to which students of these categories are getting special opportunities through these special education centres.
Officials of the Tribal Development Department said that under this scheme started from the year 2013-14, 80 seats each are reserved for Mathematics and Science subjects and 40 seats for Commerce subjects at the graduation level. At postgraduate level, 80 seats have been earmarked for science and 20 for commerce. B.Ed. A total of 200 seats are sanctioned for the programme. Out of 500 sanctioned seats, 80 percent seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribe category. Officials said that under this scheme, Pre.B.Ed will be conducted for the students selected for appointment to teacher posts. And TET Guidance and necessary resources for the exam are provided. A budget provision of Rs 2 crore 40 lakh has been made for this scheme in the year 2025-26.
Now the interest and participation of Scheduled Caste and Tribe students for admission and selection in the state is continuously increasing through the Aryabhatta Science-Commerce Education Promotion Scheme. In the year 2023-24, 452 girls had taken admission in Science-Commerce Development Center, Durg. Similarly, 168 children had taken admission in Science Commerce Development Center Jagdalpur. This year the number of students selected for various posts was 49.
Similarly, in the year 2024-25, the number of students admitted in Girls Education Center Durg increased to 473 and in Boys Center Jagdalpur to 199, while the number of students selected on various posts remained 10 this year. In the year 2025-26, 477 students were enrolled in Girls Education Center, Durg, while 275 students took admission in Boys Education Center, Jagdalpur.
This initiative of the state government is not only increasing the interest of tribal students in science and commerce subjects, but also special opportunities are being provided to the qualified students of Scheduled Caste and Tribe category as teachers, thereby strengthening both their career and social development.
