New Delhi. Delhi Government has taken a big and far-reaching step towards making Delhi a clean, neat and pollution-free capital. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has given a one-time assistance of Rs 500 crore to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to strengthen the city’s sanitation system and control dust pollution. With this amount, the problem of dust flying will be reduced by cleaning and minor repairs of roads.

The Chief Minister has clearly said that to strengthen the sanitation system permanently, the government will continue to provide regular assistance of Rs 300 crore every year to the Municipal Corporation.

A high level review meeting on this subject was organized in Delhi Secretariat on Friday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Delhi Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood, Delhi Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh, Municipal Corporation Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma, Leader of the House Pravesh Wahi, Delhi Government Chief Secretary Rajiv Verma, Corporation Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar and senior officials of the government and municipal corporation were present in the meeting.

After the meeting, the Chief Minister informed that additional Rs 500 crore has been given to MCD to keep the capital clean and neat. Some part of the amount will be spent in clearing the old dues of those companies which do waste management work so that they can carry out their work in a better way. Some portion will be given to keep the sanitation system running without any interruption so that the monthly losses incurred in collecting and transporting garbage can be compensated. Additionally, some portion will also be given to remove garbage from specific areas where contractors do not work. Apart from this, funds will also be spent on minor repairs of roads like filling potholes, small patch repairs and works to prevent dust pollution.

In the meeting, the Chief Minister has given clear instructions to the Municipal Corporation that this entire amount should be used only for approved purposes and should not be used in any other scheme. He also said that the Municipal Corporation will have to ensure regular monitoring of expenditure following all financial rules and it will be mandatory to submit progress reports and utilization certificates from time to time.

The Chief Minister said that to make the capital a truly developed Delhi, it is necessary to make it clean and pollution free. For this, it is important to maintain cleanliness system properly. He said that the dust generated from garbage etc. also increases pollution, hence our government has decided to make the system of making the capital clean and clean. The Chief Minister said that the Municipal Corporation will have to further improve the garbage collection system. The Delhi Government is giving sufficient funds separately to the Corporation to purchase modern cleaning equipment, so that better and faster results can be achieved in the cleaning work. He gave instructions to set up new plants that generate energy from waste and also asked to upgrade the existing plants. Besides, laying emphasis on proper use of green waste, instructions were given to MCD leaders to install modern machines in every assembly constituency. He said that better garbage management can also play an effective role in making the capital clean. He also said that the process of collecting wet and dry garbage should be simplified so that people’s inclination towards it increases.
