Raipur : Disabled Marriage Promotion Scheme: New identity of strong marriage, self-reliant life and respect. Under the sensitive and visionary leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, the Government of Chhattisgarh is continuously working with the resolve to provide equal opportunities and respectable life to every section of the society. In particular, the Divyang Marriage Promotion Scheme, run by the Social Welfare Department to ensure social rehabilitation, self-reliance and effective participation of the disabled people in the mainstream, is today becoming a strong example of change at the grassroots level.

This scheme, run under the guidance of Social Welfare Minister Lakshmi Rajwade, is giving a strong foundation to the married life of disabled couples by providing them financial support after marriage and is also inspiring them to move forward with self-confidence and social respect.

Under this scheme, Kuleshwari Nishad and her husband Lakesh Nishad, residents of village Kutena, post Panduka, located in Chhura development block of Gariaband district, were benefited. Kuleshwari Nishad is 45 percent handicapped and Lakesh Nishad is 40 percent hearing impaired. According to the provisions of the scheme, in case both husband and wife are disabled, a lump sum incentive amount of Rs 1 lakh was provided to them. With this help the couple strengthened their married life and today they are living a self-reliant and respectable life without being dependent on anyone.

30-year-old Vijeshwari Komrra, resident of village Bhathigadh in Mainpur development block of Gariaband district, who is 65 percent orthopedically disabled, and 35-year-old Keshar Komrra, resident of village Amlor in tehsil Chhura, are husband and wife. The couple was sanctioned an incentive amount of Rs 50 thousand under the scheme. The sanctioned amount has helped the couple in laying a strong foundation for their married life.

Similarly, Tikeshwar Sahu, resident of village Mirgi of district Balodabazar Bhatapara has also got the benefit of this scheme. Despite orthopedic disability, Sahu made himself capable through education and skill development. With the aim of starting self-employment after marriage, she applied under the Disabled Marriage Promotion Scheme, after which an assistance amount of Rs 50,000 was provided to her in her joint account through DBT. With the help received, he started the business of tent and sound system and started living with self-respect while taking responsibility of the family.

Under the Disabled Marriage Promotion Scheme, disabled women aged between 18 to 45 years and disabled men aged between 21 to 45 years, who are not income tax payers, are given financial assistance after marriage. If one person in the couple is disabled, there is a provision of lump sum assistance of Rs 50 thousand and if both are disabled, there is a provision of Rs 1 lakh. Till the financial year 2025-26, more than 631 beneficiaries have benefited from this scheme.

Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai has clarified that the aim of the state government is not only to provide assistance to the disabled, but also to make them self-reliant and establish them in the mainstream of the society with respect. Social Welfare Minister Lakshmi Rajwade says that this scheme is creating a strong foundation of stability, security and self-respect in the lives of disabled people.

Divyang Marriage Promotion Scheme is a strong example of the inclusive, humane and public welfare policy of the Chhattisgarh government, which is giving a new foundation to the dreams of disabled couples and taking them towards a self-reliant future.
