Raipur : Public welfare schemes of Chhattisgarh government are playing an important role in making rural women self-reliant. Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, Likhmania Bai Minj of village Godha of Pendra development block of Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district has set a new example of success by earning a net profit of Rs 1 lakh from fish farming business in just 10 months.

Likhamania Bai told that after contacting the GPM office of the Assistant Director, Fisheries Department, she got advice and technical guidance on scientific method of fish farming by building a liner pond in a small space. With the cooperation of the department and financial assistance of the government, he started the business by constructing a liner pond on his personal land. Likhmania Bai says that through this scheme she has become financially strong and self-reliant.

Under the scheme, his total project cost was approved at Rs 14 lakh, out of which 60 percent i.e. grant amount of Rs 8 lakh 40 thousand was received directly in his account.

As a result of continuous hard work and technical guidance, Likhamania Bai sold 2 tonnes of fish in about 10 months, which earned her an income of Rs 2 lakh 20 thousand. Out of this, a net profit of Rs 1 lakh was earned. At present also 8 to 10 quintals of fish are stored in his pond, the sale of which will further increase his income.

The objective of Chhattisgarh government is that more and more rural families, especially women, should take advantage of government schemes and become self-employed and increase their income. The success of Likhamania Bai is a source of inspiration for other villagers.
