Tamil Nadu. Assembly elections are to be held in Tamil Nadu this year. In such a situation, political parties have started their respective preparations. Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram has met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin amid election preparations. According to the information, a detailed discussion was held regarding seat sharing in the meeting that lasted for about an hour. However, P Chidambaram did not talk to the media after this meeting at CM Stalin’s residence.
Till now, Tamil Nadu’s AICC in-charge, Girish Chodankar, was in talks with the DMK as the head of the Congress seat-sharing committee. According to sources, MK Stalin had raised objections over his tone, following which, changing its strategy, the Congress high command sent senior Tamil Nadu Congress leader P Chidambaram to negotiate seat-sharing with the DMK for the upcoming assembly elections.
According to sources, Congress, which was earlier adamant on the demand of power sharing, is now limited to only increased seats. Congress, which was initially adamant on its demand of 41 seats, has now come down to 36 seats but DMK has clearly said that DMK is not in a position to give even one more seat than the 25 seats given last time. If Congress wants, one additional Rajya Sabha seat can be given.
After today’s meeting of CM MK Stalin with Chidambaram, sources are pointing out that DMK has given the final offer of 29 seats and 2 Rajya Sabha seats to Congress. A decision on this is likely to be taken soon after discussions with the top leadership of the party. It is worth noting that on Monday, DMK had bluntly told Congress that if Congress does not agree to the 25 seats that DMK is giving, then it is free to walk out of the alliance.
