Three out of four employers want to hire freshers
According to the report, hiring decisions are driven primarily by internships and real-world project experience, and not just academic qualifications. It said that almost 3 out of 4 employers intend to hire freshers. This represents an increase of three percent compared to the previous half year. The data is based on inputs from 1,051 employers surveyed between November 2025 and January 2026.
Which areas have the highest demand?
The report further revealed that the retail market (91 percent) leads the regional demand.
It is followed by e-commerce and technology startups (90 percent) and manufacturing (85 percent).
The most in-demand positions in the retail sector include dark store assistant and inventory management assistant.
Whereas e-commerce and technology startups are recruiting for Digital Sales Associate and Junior Web Developer posts.
The report further said that the roles of Inventory and Logistics Coordinator and Battery Assembly Technician are most in demand in the manufacturing sector.
Structural change in the way young talent enters the workforce
Shantanu Rooj, Founder and CEO, TeamLease EdTech, said, “We are seeing a structural change in the way young talent is joining the workforce. The willingness to hire freshers has increased to 73 per cent this half year, reflecting employers’ cautious but clear confidence in entry-level talent. Some sectors are seeing rapid growth – willingness to hire in the retail sector has increased by 50 percentage points from 41 per cent in the first half of 2025 to 91 per cent in the first half of 2026.
Access is becoming more selective
He said the travel sector has increased by 51 points, from 26 percent to 77 percent. The power and energy sector grew by 50 points, from 22 percent to 72 percent, indicating a strong surge in demand for young professionals. Still, he said, while opportunities are growing, access to them is becoming more selective.
On what basis is the real difference visible?
Roose further said that the real difference these days is between candidates who can demonstrate practical skills and those who cannot. Freshers with internships, project portfolios or practical experience are increasingly moving towards growth opportunities, while applicants with only a degree take a longer time to find a job. The solution lies in incorporating evidence of performance into the learning process.
Bangalore is at the forefront in hiring freshers.
Meanwhile, the report said that Bengaluru geographically leads in the intention to recruit freshers with 84 percent.
Information Technology (81 percent),
E-commerce and technology start-ups (90 percent),
Driven by engineering and infrastructure (61 percent),
Software Testing Engineer (54 percent),
Digital marketing executives (48 percent) are in high demand,
The city also tops in terms of recruitment for degree apprenticeship with 45 percent.
Mumbai is also ahead in hiring freshers
It is followed by Mumbai with 72 per cent demand, driven by retail (91 per cent), FMC (80 per cent) and healthcare and pharmaceuticals (52 per cent) sectors, with strong demand for BIM Coordination Assistant (55 per cent), Digital Sales Associate (58 per cent) and Clinical Research Associate (45 per cent). The report further said that these cities together account for the majority of entry-level recruitment activity in India, offering freshers diverse opportunities across technology, operations, healthcare and commerce sectors.
