Raipur : The conversation on “New Generation Film World” at Raipur Literature Festival did not feel like a formal panel. The words of actor Satyajit Dubey sitting on the stage had experience, steadiness and a clear, grounded approach to looking at cinema. As soon as he started speaking at the Shyamlal Chaturvedi Pavilion, it became clear that this discussion would go beyond films and talk about stories, sentiments and society. For Satyajit Dubey, cinema is not a game of glamour. In his words, the age of a film is not decided by the budget, but by its authenticity. The story that reaches the heart lasts with time.
Referring to the land of Chhattisgarh, Satyajit said that its folk life, literature and social experience are the basis for Indian cinema on which durable and memorable films can be made. “Stories are all around us,” he says, they just need to be seen and told honestly. His talk on the digital era was not a repetition of a trend, but a sign of a possibility. He described OTT platforms as the voice of regional experiences, a voice which is no longer bound by boundaries. Today’s audience wants real, down-to-earth stories. He wants to see real people, not perfect faces, said Satyajit Dubey.
Bilaspur to Mumbai
The story of Satyajit Dubey, born in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, is not one of instant success. After school, he reached Mumbai in 2007 with the dream of acting. Theater became the first school for him, where he learned not only acting but also understanding human beings.
Advertisements helped them survive during the years of struggle. Worked with brands like Pizza Hut, KitKat, Reliance Big TV and HDFC Bank. And then, at the age of just 20, she got her first break in films with the film ‘Always Kabhi Kabhi’ directed by Roshan Abbas and produced by Shahrukh Khan.
After this, be it the role of Nana Saheb in ‘Jhansi Ki Rani’ or ‘Luck Luck Ki Baat’, ‘Banke Ki Crazy Baraat’ and Carry on Kuttan, he gradually cemented his place in every work. The role of Dr Ahaan Mirza in ‘Mumbai Diaries 26/11’ on the OTT platform established him as an actor who plays sensitive roles with conviction. His presence in series like ‘Bestseller’, ‘Strategy: Balakot and Beyond’ and ‘Pyaar Tasting’ is a continuation of this continuity.
Satyajit Dubey did not give any inspirational slogan to the youth from the stage of Raipur Literature Festival. He simply said that there is no shortcut to success. Theater taught me that if you are not honest with yourself, no character can be honest. At the event, Suvigya Dubey briefly underlined the role of family on children’s self-confidence and expression, while other speakers shared their views on the changing relationship between cinema and literature.
