Bhopal : Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav is committed to make every possible contribution from the state in achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of self-reliant India@2047. As a result, work is being done for a prosperous Madhya Pradesh@2047 keeping in mind the overall development in all areas of the state. He said that the forests of Madhya Pradesh are a very important heritage not only of the state but also of the nation. In view of the completion of 100 years of the country’s independence in the year 2047, an action plan has been prepared setting long-term goals regarding the conservation of forest resources of the state, their community-based management and the contribution of forests to the environmental and development goals of India in the 21st century. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that “Vision @2047 Re-imagining Forest Resources for the Climate Resilient Future”, a long-term framework for forest management based on biodiversity and rich community participation in the state, is an important document.
Madhya Pradesh is full of diverse and rich forests. From dense forests to semi-arid forests and riverine ecosystems exist here. These forests provide shelter to innumerable flora and fauna and ensure water security of millions of people by being the source areas of major rivers. The forests of the state are the basis of livelihood of the tribes and forest-dependent communities, whose culture and identity are interconnected with the forest ecology. Protection of these forests is not only an environmental responsibility but also a social and economic imperative.
Vision@2047 is based on the belief that traditional forest management practices based on regulation and conservation alone are no longer sufficient. Changing rainfall patterns, rising temperatures, forest fires and land use pressures demand comprehensive and visionary solutions. In this context, the vision adopts an eco-based, climate-friendly, science-based approach.
The key foundation of Vision@2047 is community participation. The vision envisions forest-dependent communities not as mere beneficiaries, but as co-managers and custodians of forest resources. When communities receive direct benefits from forests, they become their most powerful custodians. With this belief this vision promotes inclusive growth. This vision also places special emphasis on modernization of forest management. Special importance has been given in the vision document on strengthening transparency, efficiency and accountability through digital technology in governance processes.
Institutional reforms and capacity building are the cornerstone of Vision@2047. An efficient, trained and motivated workforce is essential to translate policies into effective outcomes. The Department will continue to invest in training, leadership development, scientific research and innovation.
Vision@2047 is divided into 5 chapters. It includes special chapters on the history and structure of the Forest Department, vision-mission and policy directive principles of the department, targets till the year 2024. Along with this, the outline of the major 11 pillars of implementing Vision@2024 namely forest management, wildlife conservation, forest conservation, best use of forest resources, green cover outside forest land, community forestry and livelihood, eco-tourism and nature education, climate resilience, carbon and ecosystem services, policy and legal reforms, human resource capacity and welfare and digital and data transformation has been presented. Vision@2047 is a document that will continue to take shape over time in response to emerging challenges and opportunities. This vision document is committed to the target of 33% green cover and national resolution of net zero emissions by the year 2017. It is the effort of the state government to ensure that the forests of the state remain healthy, productive and important from the contemporary point of view for the coming generations.
