Raipur : National Rural Livelihood Mission is a major poverty alleviation programme. It aims to empower rural people, especially women, through Self Help Groups (SHGs), provide financial assistance, and create self-employment opportunities for sustainable livelihood.
Under the Lakhpati Mahila Initiative run under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (BIHAN) of the Government of Chhattisgarh, “Asha Bihan Bazaar” has been innovatively started by women of self-help groups in Surguja district, through which now the products of rural women will be able to get direct market.
Asha Ravi, associated with the self-help group of Kishunagar under Ambikapur development block of the district, has taken an important step towards women self-reliance by starting “Asha Bihan Bazaar”. Through the financial support received from Bihaan, they will now be able to organize and systematically sell the products prepared by various women associated with the group.

Innovative solution to market problem

Pure mustard oil, multigrain flour, pickles and other handicrafts faced difficulty in selling due to lack of proper market. Asha Ravi, turning this challenge into an opportunity, has established her own market with the financial assistance provided under the Bihan scheme. Natural products made by women will be available in Asha Bihan market located in front of Foodpark on Bhatti Road, Ambikapur.

New flight received from financial incentives

Under ‘Lakhpati Mahila Initiative’, a total assistance amount of Rs 10 lakh has been sanctioned to Asha Ravi. Out of this amount, Rs 5 lakh has been provided as the first installment, using which he laid the foundation of this market. Now through this center the products of nearby groups will be easily sold, which will increase the income of hundreds of women.

Inauguration took place in the presence of distinguished guests

At the inauguration of “Asha Bihan Bazaar”, public representatives praised this innovation of women and called it an important initiative towards strengthening the rural economy.
This effort towards making women financially self-reliant through Bihan Yojana will prove to be a new and important dimension towards women empowerment along with realizing the resolve of “Self-reliant India”.
