Chennai|Political turmoil regarding elections has intensified in Tamil Nadu. There is a continuous discussion going on about the alliance between the ruling DMK and Congress in the state. However, both the parties are unable to agree on the number of seats. Now senior Congress leader P Chidambaram has taken the lead to end this deadlock. Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram met Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday. He was also accompanied by TNCC chief K Selvaperunthagai. The meeting took place at the Chief Minister’s camp office in Chennai. This conversation of Congress leaders with DMK President Stalin lasted for about an hour. During this, many issues related to both the parties were discussed.
The matter is stuck regarding the number of seats
A Congress source said that both the parties want to continue the alliance. But there is some disagreement regarding the number of seats. Initially Congress had demanded 39 seats. At the same time, DMK had also offered a Rajya Sabha seat to Congress. The talks are stuck on how many total seats will be given to Congress. The source also said that now a final decision will be taken in this matter soon. There is a possibility that Congress may agree to the formula of 28 seats and two Rajya Sabha seats.
Solution will come soon: DMK
Meanwhile, DMK spokesperson T K S Elangovan spoke to reporters in Vellore. “DMK wants the alliance to continue. Talks are going on and our leaders will take a good decision,” he said. Elangovan also said that our leaders want to resolve the issue amicably. We will know about this by the evening. It is an interesting twist that the party high command has now asked P Chidambaram to talk to the DMK leadership directly. He has been given the responsibility of finding an amicable solution to this matter. Earlier, Chidambaram and Selvaperunthagai held discussions among themselves and then both went to the CM residence. Last week, the Congress committee led by Tamil Nadu in-charge Girish Chodankar had held initial talks. He had submitted his wish list to the DMK committee, which is headed by DMK treasurer TR Baalu. After initial discussions, Chodankar had said that DMK’s proposal of 25 seats was not acceptable and the party expected more seats.
