Raipur : Reading newspapers daily is a beneficial habit for students. This gives them an opportunity to be aware of current events, important issues and diverse ideas. This habit enhances their reading and writing abilities through exposure to quality language and well-organized content. A commendable and innovative initiative has been taken in the government primary school Piperdand of Premnagar development block of Surguja district in the direction of not limiting education only to bookish knowledge and connecting it with life. Newspaper reading has been included in the daily routine of the students in the school. With this effort, a meaningful step has been taken towards converting examination-centric education into knowledge-centric education.
The main objective of this initiative is not only to develop the habit of reading among students but also to motivate them to think, understand, reason and ask questions. Assistant teacher Mr. Rajendra Jaiswal said that due to increasing mobile screen time at present, the reading culture among children is becoming weak. In such a situation, newspaper reading has emerged as an effective medium for educational improvement. Under the new system, the school prayer meeting will no longer be limited to just a disciplinary activity, but will develop as a school of awareness. Students will read the main headlines of the newspaper every day and will be aware of the current events of the country and the world.
Apart from this, once a week students will be motivated for original writing and group discussion on any editorial topic. This will develop thinking, communication skills, expression ability and moral values in children. This innovative initiative of the school is being widely appreciated in the area. This effort will definitely play an important role in the all-round development of the students.
