Raipur : Jal Jeevan Mission is fulfilling the dream of providing tap water to every house till the last reaches of the village in Chhattisgarh. Due to the work done under the mission in Sohagpur of Gram Panchayat Tedinara, bordering Odisha at the end of Mahasamund district, now every house is getting tap water. The Public Health Engineering Department has built a high level reservoir of 40 kilo liters at a cost of Rs 54 lakh 38 thousand for the supply of clean and safe drinking water. The target of providing pure drinking water to every household has been achieved by laying 2800 meter pipeline in the village and providing 140 domestic tap connections. Sohagpur has been declared Har Ghar Jal Gram in the month of December.
Earlier, people of Sohagpur were dependent on hand pumps, power pumps and wells for drinking water. During the rainy season, women faced a lot of difficulty in fetching water from long distances. Now women are saving a lot of time due to water reaching their homes. With this, they are able to give more time to their livelihood related work, children and family. They have also got relief from the daily problems of arranging water for all the people in the house.
