It is reported that both the factions of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) were going to announce their reunification in February, but it has been postponed due to the death of Ajit Pawar. Recently, uncle and nephew had united for the Pune local body elections, after which speculations about NCP’s unity had intensified.

The report quoted sources as saying that the discussions regarding the merger had progressed well and the leaders were going to make a formal announcement after the Zilla Parishad elections. According to NCP leaders, there are uncertainties after the death of the Deputy CM, but the political process is going on.
According to the report, NCP leaders who reached Baramati also held a meeting on Wednesday night. Sources have said that the unification of the two factions will be a step towards Sharad Pawar’s NCP-SP ‘joining the government’. NCP is part of SP Mahavikas Aghadi. Whereas, Ajit Pawar-led NCP is included in the ruling grand alliance.
