It is reported that both the factions of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) were going to announce their reunification in February, but it has been postponed due to the death of Ajit Pawar. Ajit was leading one group. Whereas, the main senior leader of the other faction NCP SP was Sharad Pawar. Recently, uncle and nephew had united for the Pune local body elections, after which speculations about NCP’s unity had intensified.

According to a report, both the factions of NCP were going to announce their coming together on February 8. The report quoted sources as saying that the discussions regarding the merger had progressed well and the leaders were going to make a formal announcement after the Zilla Parishad elections. According to NCP leaders, there are uncertainties after the death of the Deputy CM, but the political process is going on.

According to the report, NCP leaders who reached Baramati also held a meeting on Wednesday night. Sources have said that the unification of the two factions will be a step towards Sharad Pawar’s NCP-SP ‘joining the government’. NCP is part of SP Mahavikas Aghadi. Whereas, Ajit Pawar-led NCP is included in the ruling grand alliance.

Patil has described Ajit Pawar’s demise as a big loss. Talking to the newspaper, he said, ‘In recent times, we were meeting continuously. On January 16, we met at my residence so that final talks could be held regarding contesting the elections together. On January 17, a meeting was held at Sharad Pawar ji’s house.

Shinde said that the merger is being discussed as per the consensus between both the parties. He said, ‘Now it is important to speak the truth. Ajit Pawar had said that we will come together after the civic elections. Meetings were also held in this regard. Ajit Dada had said this while looking at Sharad Pawar.
