Kanpur . The strict stance of the police against criminals is continuously being seen in Uttar Pradesh. There was an encounter between the police and notorious robber Ghanraj in Kanpur on Sunday morning, in which the criminal carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 was injured. The police arrested him from the spot. Ghanraj was absconding after the incident of chain snatching from a woman.
According to the police, the accused is a resident of Shamli and cases of robbery and snatching are registered against him in more than 12 districts including Kanpur, Lucknow, Azamgarh, Kaushambi, Gorakhpur. During the encounter, the motorcycle used in the robbery was also recovered from the accused. Police have formed two special teams to search for his absconding accomplice.
Similarly, police also took major action in Sawayajpur police station area of Hardoi district. During checking, cattle smugglers opened fire on the police. In retaliation, two smugglers—Budhpal and Devendra alias Haggu—were shot in the legs and injured, while their two associates Ratipal and Hrithik were arrested from the spot.
CO Harpalpur Satyendra Singh said that a stolen buffalo, Rs 1.30 lakh in cash, a stolen pickup vehicle, four .315 bore pistols, live cartridges and shells have been recovered from the possession of the accused. The injured accused have been sent to the hospital for treatment.
During interrogation, the accused admitted that they used to track animals during the day and commit theft incidents at night. Dozens of criminal cases are registered against the arrested miscreants in various police stations of Shahjahanpur, Badaun and Hardoi.
