Brainstorming on the draft of State Child Protection Policy-2025

Raipur : With the aim of ensuring the protection, rights and all-round development of children in Chhattisgarh, a state level consultation workshop was organized today in Raipur to finalize the draft of Chhattisgarh State Child Protection Policy-2025. This workshop, organized by the Department of Women and Child Development in collaboration with UNICEF, was an important step towards developing a strong, coordinated and rights-based child protection system.

In the workshop, final suggestions were received from experts, stakeholders and departmental officials on the draft policy. During this, there were in-depth discussions on issues like prevention of child marriage and child labour, rehabilitation of orphans and destitute children, child trafficking, violence, neglect, malnutrition and protection of children from cyber crimes.

Mrs. Shammi Abidi, Secretary, Women and Child Development Department, while presenting the draft of the policy and the action plan, said that this policy is being prepared keeping in mind the social and geographical conditions of the state, in accordance with the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, UNCRC and other national legal provisions. In the workshop, Dr. Varnika Sharma, Chairperson of Chhattisgarh State Child Protection Commission, stressed on monitoring of child rights, strengthening the complaint redressal mechanism and ensuring the quality of institutional and non-institutional care.

On this occasion, Joint Secretary School Education Mrs. Fariha Alam, Director Social Welfare Mrs. Roktima Yadav, Director Treasury and Accounts Mrs. Padmini Bhoi Sahu, Director Women and Child Development Dr. Renuka Srivastava, UNICEF representative Suchetna Desai, Karnataka State representative, Joint Director Nandlal Choudhary, Deputy Director Mrs. Neelam Dewangan along with officials of Health, Home (Police), Labour, Panchayat and Urban Administration departments, SCPS/DCPS, voluntary organizations and legal experts were present.

The technical session included Suarlen Manoharan, Sonikutty George, M.R. Govind Beniwal, Sunimisha Srivastava, Sunupur Pandey, Chiranjeevi Jain, Pramod Gupta and Prabhat Kumar gave important suggestions on effective implementation of the policy, multi-departmental coordination and monitoring system.

To review the draft policy, the participants were divided into different groups and an in-depth discussion was held. Officials said that Chhattisgarh State Child Protection Policy – ​​2025 will be finalized by incorporating the suggestions received, so that it can become a strong shield of protection and rights for every child of the state.
