Raipur : Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, continuous efforts are being made to increase agricultural production and area. Due to the efforts of Agriculture Minister Ramvichar Netam, under the Prime Minister Agricultural Irrigation Scheme, 19306 farmers of the state are being provided the benefit of sprinkler and drip irrigation system and irrigation facility is being provided in their 16154 hectares of agricultural land. Farmers are also being encouraged to adopt sprinkler and drip irrigation systems. Under this scheme, a provision of 55 percent subsidy has been made for small marginal farmers and 45 percent subsidy for large farmers. So that farmers can take advantage of modern irrigation technology at low cost.

Officials of Chhattisgarh State Seed and Agricultural Development Corporation said that with the use of sprinkler and drip irrigation system, water is being available to the crops as per requirement and equally. Due to this, 30 to 40 percent water is being saved. Besides, effective control of water wastage in the fields has become possible. Farming is becoming more profitable with better use of limited water resources.

Drip irrigation system is proving to be extremely beneficial especially for vegetables, fruits, horticulture and cash crops, while sprinkler system is increasing the productivity of pulses, oilseeds and grain crops. According to farmers, the use of these systems has resulted in 20 to 30 percent increase in yield and reduction in fertilizer and labor costs.

Under this scheme, farmers are also being provided technical guidance, training, design approval and assistance in installation. This has increased the awareness of modern technologies among the farmers and they are getting inspired to do farming in a scientific manner. This scheme is proving to be a boon for farmers in areas affected by drought and low rainfall. Due to more production with less water, the economic condition of farmers is getting strengthened and their income is increasing permanently. So far in the year 2025-26, sprinkler sets have been installed in the fields of 15 thousand 757 farmers in 12 thousand 212 hectares and drip systems have been installed in the fields of 3 thousand 549 farmers in 3 thousand 942 hectares.
