The effect of snowfall in North India and active western disturbance is now clearly visible in Jharkhand also. In the last 24 hours, cold winds have increased across the state and a huge drop in temperature has been recorded. The temperature has dropped to 4.1 degrees in the capital Ranchi, 5.4 degrees in Medininagar and 3.1 degrees Celsius in Bokaro.

According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in Ranchi was recorded at 6.6 degrees, Medininagar 6.3, Bokaro 8.5, Lohardaga 4.1 and Kanke 5.2 degrees Celsius. Due to dense fog and loud noise in the morning and evening, life is being badly affected.

All schools closed till January 8, separate decision on pre-board

In view of the serious situation of cold wave, the School Education and Literacy Department has issued an order to keep all government, non-government, aided and private schools of the state closed till January 8. It has also been clarified in the order that in schools where pre-board examination is proposed, the concerned competent authorities can take decisions regarding the conduct of the examination at their own level. This precautionary step has been taken keeping in mind the health of small children.

Mercury will fall further in the next two days, yellow alert in 15 districts

According to the Meteorological Center, a further drop of two to three degrees in the minimum temperature is possible for the next two days. There are signs of gradual increase in temperature from the third day. Yellow alert has been issued regarding dense fog in 15 districts of the state including Ranchi. Visibility has reduced to 300 to 700 meters in many areas, due to which road and air traffic has also been affected.

Maximum temperature also drops, warning regarding health

A decline in the maximum temperature has also been recorded in the last 24 hours. The maximum temperature in Ranchi was 20.6 degrees, Jamshedpur was 21.2 degrees and Medininagar was 21.1 degrees Celsius, which is about three degrees below normal. The Meteorological Department has advised the elderly, children and morning walkers to be especially cautious and avoid unnecessary going out in the morning and evening.
