Bhopal: Sericulture is going to be a boon for the rural areas of Madhya Pradesh. The state government has started it. Its results will also become visible in the coming 3 years. Madhya Pradesh Cottage and Village Industries Department has started Silk Revolution to provide employment to farmers and women in rural areas of the state. Thousands of farmers and women are getting direct benefits from this. In the coming time, a target has been set to produce silk crop in 3500 acres in the state.
Farming in 431 acres including private and government
Cottage and Village Industries Department Minister Dilip Jaiswal Said that “The state government is continuously making efforts towards making silk production a strong pillar of the rural economy. In the last two years, through the Silk Directorate, new mulberry plants have been planted in 231 acres in the private sector and 200 acres in the government silk centres. This has increased the availability of raw materials required for silk production and strengthened the future production.
Training given to 5 thousand farmers
Minister Jaiswal said that 3,600 mulberry and 850 tussar cocoon producing farmers of the state have been linked with self-employment. In the last two years, 2.64 lakh kg mulberry cocoons and 31.51 lakh tussar cocoons were produced in the state. Along with this, an effort has been made to increase the productivity and income of about 5 thousand farmers by training them in modern cocoon production techniques.
42 women became Lakhpati Didi from silk
Till now, 42 women in the state have been identified as Lakhpati Didi through silk production. This initiative is proving important in making women self-reliant in rural areas and increasing household income. Minister of State Jaiswal said that a target has been set to increase mulberry cocoon production from the current 1.50 lakh kg to 4 lakh kg in the next 3 years. There is a plan to increase the Tussar cocoon production from 40 lakh to 70 lakh. To achieve these goals, the mulberry plantation area will be increased by an additional 3,500 acres.
Products will be available on e-commerce platform
The minister said that a Silk Interpretation Center will be established at Pachmarhi in Narmadapuram district for promotion, training and awareness of the silk industry. Along with this, marketing will be started through e-commerce platform to promote the sale of silk products. New natural silk showrooms will also be opened in Gwalior, Jabalpur and Indore.
Mulberry silk will be produced in 3500 acres
An action plan has been prepared to provide skill upgradation training to 6,200 beneficiaries in the next three years. Apart from this, Mulberry Nursery will be developed in an area of ​​150 acres. New mulberry plantation in 3,500 acres, 16 new seed units will be started and 10 new threading units will be established. With these efforts, it is expected that sericulture production, employment and rural income will get a new impetus in the state.”
