New Delhi . Indian Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced that four companies will start commercial production of semiconductor chips in India this year. Speaking to the media, the Union Minister said that companies that had started pilot production last year, including CG Power and Keynes Technology, would start commercial production first. He told that Micron Technology has recently started pilot production and after this they will also start commercial production. Additionally, Tata Electronics’ plant in Assam will begin pilot production in mid-2026 and commercial production by the end of the year. He claimed that Taiwan, Japan and South Korea are showing great interest in India’s semiconductor ecosystem. Seeing China’s progress in semiconductor industry and its need in the global world, India also wants to strengthen its position in this field. Till now, the Government of India has given approval to build 10 semiconductor plants in six states of the country. A total investment of Rs 1.60 lakh crore has been said for these plots to be built in Gujarat, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
