Bhopal. Railways has rationalized its passenger fare structure with effect from 26 December 2025 with an aim to maintain a balance between making fares affordable for passengers and sustainability of operations. There is no change in fares for suburban services and season tickets under the revised fare structure, which covers both suburban and non-suburban routes. Fares for ordinary non-AC (non-suburban) services have been rationalized in a graded manner into Second Ordinary Class, Sleeper Class Ordinary and First Ordinary Class. There is no increase in fares for journeys up to 215 km in Ordinary Second Class, leaving no impact on short distance and daily commuters. The fare has been increased by Rs 5 for distance between 216 km to 750 km. For journeys beyond this, the increase has been implemented in a phased manner – Rs 10 for distances between 751 km to 1250 km, Rs 15 for distances between 1251 km to 1750 km and Rs 20 for distances between 1751 km to 2250 km. There has been a uniform revision of fares at the rate of 1 paise per kilometer for non-suburban journeys in Sleeper Class Ordinary and First Class Ordinary class, thereby ensuring a gradual and limited increase in fares. Fares in both non-AC and AC classes in mail/express trains have been increased by 2 paise per kilometer. This includes Sleeper Class, First Class, AC Chair Car, AC Three-Tier, AC Two-Tier and AC First Class. For example, for a journey of 500 kilometers in a non-AC mail/express coach, passengers will have to pay approximately Rs 10 extra.
The existing basic fares of major railway services including Tejas Rajdhani, Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Humsafar, Amrit Bharat, Tejas, Mahamana, Gatimaan, Antyodaya, Garib Rath, Jan Shatabdi, Yuva Express, Namo Bharat Rapid Rail and ordinary non-suburban services (except AC MEMU/DEMU, where applicable) have been revised in line with the approved class-wise basic fare increase. This amendment has been done equally in all categories and in a systematic manner. It is noteworthy that there has been no change in reservation fee, superfast surcharge or other ancillary charges, all these will remain applicable as per the existing rules. The applicability of GST will remain unchanged and rounding of fare will continue as per prevailing norms. The revised fare will be applicable only for tickets booked on or after December 26, 2025. No additional charges will be levied on tickets booked before this date, even if the journey is after the effective date. The fare list displayed at the stations will also be updated as per the new fares effective from 26.12.2025.
