Bhopal : The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, started in 2015 in Bhopal with the aim of providing permanent roofs to the poor, is still incomplete. Beneficiaries in Bhopal are tired of waiting for the keys of their houses. The beneficiaries say that they had completed the application process years ago and also deposited their share in installments as per the prescribed rules. Despite this, he has not been able to get possession of the house till date.
etv india When I visited the spot and saw the reality of the ongoing projects at 3 places in the capital Bhopal, I found that the complaints of the beneficiaries were true.
Construction work of most of the projects is incomplete
The hopes of poor families who have been dreaming of a permanent house for a long time seem to be dashing. The pain of the beneficiaries is that the PM has taken a loan for the house, is also paying the EMI and is also living in a rented house under compulsion. The construction work of many projects on the spot is still incomplete. At some places the building is standing but basic facilities are not there, while at some places the work has come to a complete standstill.
Even half of the target work was not done
Bhopal Municipal Corporation was supposed to build 11 and a half thousand houses and give them to the people in 9 years, but only 6 and a half thousand houses have been built. The Municipal Corporation had started 21 projects under the House for All scheme of the Centre. 40 percent of the projects got stuck after starting the work and those which are running are also very slow. According to the Municipal Corporation, out of 11,457 flats earmarked in 21 projects, only 6573 have been constructed.
Stop number 12 of Arera Colony
The beneficiaries were to receive the money in the year 2018-19 but have not received it till date. During this period many corporation commissioners came and went. People visited the corporation office and staged protests, but till date the beneficiaries have not received the benefits of the scheme. Sunita Bai has been living in a slum in Bhopal’s number 12 area for the last 10 years. Where one has to survive under a small tin shed.
Sunita Bai gave the first installment of Rs 55 thousand to the corporation to avail the benefit of PM Awas Yojana 5 years ago but has not yet received the house. Hundreds of families like theirs have deposited money but have not received housing yet.

Delay in getting approval from RERA: Suryavanshi
in this case Municipal Corporation President Kishan Suryavanshi Says, “There was a delay in getting approval from RERA in these projects running under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, due to which the construction work could not be completed on time. The beneficiaries are bearing the brunt of the delay. The Municipal Corporation is taking this entire matter seriously. The projects are being continuously monitored and instructions have been given to the concerned agencies to complete the construction work expeditiously.”
